Beach Wear Basics: The folks who package the Action Sports Retailer trade exposition think that it’s high time to get back to basics again.

Preliminary registration forms for the Sept. 10-12 trade show at San Diego’s bay-front convention center carry the following headlines: “Back to basics . . . back to the beach . . . back to business.” That’s in decided contrast to 1992’s show materials, which welcomed the “new reality” being generated by the blending of surf wear and street fashions.

The upcoming show will focus more on beach sports and apparel than on the broader “youth culture” featured during the past two years, according to show officials.
