Continental Pilots Vote for Independent Union: The Independent Assn. of Continental Pilots will restore union representation to the pilots after a 10-year absence. The vote rejected the Air Line Pilots Assn., the nation’s largest pilot labor group, in favor of the fledgling independent union. In voting supervised by the National Mediation Board, 2,955 pilots, or 70.5%, voted for the IACP, and 1,233, or 29.5%, chose the ALPA. Pilots at both Continental and its Continental Express commuter line cast ballots. Parties have two days to file objections to the balloting before results become final.
