Commerce : City Will Celebrate Rail Station Opening

Officials will mark the July 28 opening of the city’s first commuter rail station with a train exhibit and the dedication of an Amtrak rail car named after the city.
The station at 6344 26th St. will be part of Amtrak’s service between San Diego and downtown Los Angeles. It will include a passenger platform, which cost about $600,000 to build, and a 300-vehicle parking lot. The project was funded by the city and the Commerce Redevelopment Agency, said Judy Rambeau, a spokeswoman for the City of Commerce. She estimated that many of the 50,000 people who commute to work in the city will use the new station.
Amtrak service will include four northbound and four southbound trains daily. Commerce-to-Los Angeles tickets will cost $5 one way and $8 round trip, or $32 for 10 round trips good for 21 days.
