A fast-moving brush fire whipped by 25-m.p.h. winds swept across 400 acres in Lancaster Thursday night, but caused no injuries and did not threaten any structures, Los Angeles County fire officials said.

The fire was 90% contained by 9:45 p.m., a fire dispatcher said.

The blaze broke out about 8:40 p.m. near 95th Street and Avenue G and spread quickly in the desert area before firefighters brought it under control, dispatcher Charlotte Kramer said.

“The first call we got was that it was 25 acres, and then boom, it was 50 acres and then 400 acres,” Kramer said. “It was really going for a while there.”

Firefighters battled the three-alarm blaze with water-dropping helicopters and bulldozers, Kramer said.

The cause of the fire was not known.
