A 41-year-old man was killed when his car collided head-on with another vehicle, sending him through his windshield and into oncoming traffic, where he was run over by a third car, police said Thursday.

David Alan Orr of Dana Point was turning left out of Ruby’s Restaurant, 3080 South Coast Highway, about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday when his Volkswagen van collided with a Chevrolet northbound on the highway, Sgt. Doris Weaver said.

“It spun his van around, then (the van) rolled over, and he was ejected through the windshield because he was not wearing a seat belt,” Weaver said.

Orr landed in southbound lanes, where he was hit by a Cadillac, police said.

He died at the scene. An autopsy Thursday showed he suffered a broken neck, fractured ribs and cuts to his face, Deputy Coroner Rick McAnally said.

There was no indication that alcohol might have caused the accident, Weaver said. No citations were issued, and an investigation is continuing.

The drivers of the two other cars and their six passengers sustained minor cuts and bruises, and were treated at the Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center in Mission Viejo, police said.

A portion of Coast Highway was closed for about 90 minutes.
