Two aftershocks of last year’s Landers earthquake struck near Barstow and Yucca Valley Thursday. The first, magnitude 3.6, struck at 11:27 a.m. and was centered 13 miles east of Barstow near the site of a persistent cluster of aftershocks that has lasted for months. The second, magnitude 3.8, struck at 3:57 p.m., near the original Landers quake epicenter, seven miles north of Yucca Valley.

Scientists have counted more than 46,000 aftershocks of the Landers quake, but most have been too small to feel. Thursday’s were heavy enough to be noticeable in the immediate vicinity.
