A 72-year-old man accused of trying to rob a Bank of America in La Crescenta while wearing a disguise was released from custody after he made bail, court officials said Monday.

Antonio Estrada of Los Angeles was released Sunday after his arrest July 2 near the Bank of America, 3141 Foothill Blvd., sheriff’s officials said.

Estrada is scheduled to return to Glendale Municipal Court on Monday for a preliminary hearing. He faces four counts of attempted second-degree robbery, second-degree burglary, carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle and carrying a loaded firearm in a vehicle.

Investigators suspect that Estrada was the same man who entered a back door of a Bank of America wearing a fake beard and mustache, a baseball cap, sunglasses and a blue jumpsuit.

“He saw that the line was too long and walked back out,” said Sgt. Dan Cox of the Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station in La Crescenta.

Police then arrested Estrada near the bank after responding to the bank’s silent alarm and a passerby’s call concerning Estrada. The items used for the suspect’s disguise were seized, along with a handgun, a starter pistol and a small amount of cocaine.

Glendale Municipal Judge Joseph DeVanon had approved a request by Public Defender Phil Matsumoto to decrease bail from $20,000 to $8,000.
