Oxnard : Cities Invited to Help Build Recycling Site

Share

The Oxnard City Council voted Tuesday to ask other cities to join in building a recycling and waste-transfer station in Oxnard, despite a consultant’s warnings about doing business with the firm proposing to operate the recycling center.

“Please join with us to build a regional (materials recovery facility) to serve the western waste shed,” wrote Oxnard Councilmen Michael Plisky and Andres Herrera in a letter to government leaders.

“You can be assured that your interest to move forward on a mutual basis will be enthusiastically received by the Oxnard City Council,” the letter said.

Local leaders recently expressed their doubts about the project after a consulting firm found that the company that Oxnard chose for the plan, BLT Enterprises, “did not have the necessary financial qualifications to perform successfully.”

But, in a response read to the Oxnard council Tuesday, Oxnard Utilities Director Benjamen Wong said the report by consultant Hilton Farnkopf & Hobson was incomplete and inaccurate.
