The son of prominent Newport Beach developer George Argyros was ordered Friday to serve 2 1/2 days in jail and pay a $300 fine for illegal arrest and seizure when he confronted a motorist in Idaho, flashed an Orange County Sheriff’s Advisory Council medallion and threatened to arrest him.

George Argyros Jr., 28, pleaded guilty in April to the lesser charge after originally being accused of impersonating an officer. Linda Reed of Hailey, Ida., a spokeswoman for the Blaine County prosecutor’soffice, said Saturday that the sentence was handed down by Municipal Judge Robert Elgee after prosecutors asked unsuccessfully for a 30-day jail term.

Police in Sun Valley, Ida., said the younger Argyros was upset by a motorist who was driving too slow ahead of him and forced the driver off the road. The incident occurred two days before Argyros’ wedding in Sun Valley.
