COSTA MESA : College Will Show Public Its Aquarium
Fish lovers can get a behind-the-scenes look at the inhabitants of Orange Coast College’s aquarium during an open house Friday.
Marine science students will lead visitors on tours of the aquarium, which includes exotic sea creatures collected from local waters. The free tours of Orange County’s largest cold-water aquarium will take place from 10 a.m. to noon.
“This open house will give people a chance to get a behind-the-scenes look at our aquarium,” said Dennis Kelly, associate professor of marine biology.
Visitors will also be able to get hands-on experience at the “tide pool touch tank.” The students will demonstrate how they test water; collect, maintain and feed marine animals, and clean the tanks.
Seven habitats are maintained at the aquarium, including a kelp forest, octopus tank, tropical reef and jellyfish tank.
