District Seeks Funds for Crossing Guard

With Ventura County no longer paying for crossing guards in unincorporated areas, the Ventura Unified School District is looking into ways to pay for the guard at Montalvo Elementary School, a district official said Wednesday.
“Our plan and hope is to keep the crossing guard there,” said Bob Dalto, district risk manager.
In a budget-cutting measure earlier this week, Ventura County supervisors eliminated funding for guards in Montalvo, and other school districts near Thousand Oaks, Camarillo and in the Ojai Valley.
The annual cost for the Montalvo guard, who is stationed at the corner of Bristol Road and Katherine Avenue, is $7,000.
Dalto expects the situation to be resolved by the time school starts.
