Clouds Expected to Stay for Weekend

A persistent and damp marine layer locked in over the coast means a blanket of gray fog for ocean-side dwellers and cool inland temperatures for the rest of the county, officials said Friday.

A phenomenon known as a coastal eddy, which more commonly occurs in May or June, has pushed the marine layer farther inland than normal. As a result, temperatures in the inland valleys and deserts are expected to be 10 to 12 degrees below normal through most of the weekend, said Terry Schaeffer, a National Weather Service meteorologist in Santa Paula.

Light drizzle was reported Friday in pockets of Ventura County, and more is possible today. By Sunday morning, the clouds should begin burning off, with weather patterns returning to normal.

Temperatures today are expected to be in the upper 60s to mid-70s on the coast, and from the mid-70s to the mid-80s inland, depending on the cloud cover, said Margaret Gross, a National Weather Service meteorologist in Riverside.
