Reception to Honor Fair’s Volunteers
Kicking off preparations for this year’s Ventura County Fair, organizers plan a reception today to honor some of the hundreds of volunteers who make the event possible year after year.
County Fair spokeswoman Teri Raley said 1,500 to 2,000 people donate their time to the fair each year.
“Without the volunteers, the fair would be an entirely different operation,” she said. “They provide manpower and a spirit that is simply not available for hire.”
Raley said the volunteers help register people who want to display their wares or enter contests. “They help to set up the buildings. They help host and hostess in the buildings.”
Some volunteers serve for years.
At Saturday’s reception, fair organizers will honor about 200 people who have volunteered for five years or more, including one Ventura resident who has served for 50 years, Raley said.
For information, call the fair at 648-3376.
