Rowe Picks Up Points Lead With Victory at Ventura

Steve Rowe of Fillmore won the ICMA Modified oval main event Friday night at Ventura Raceway and took sole possession of first place in the points standings.

Rowe, who has overtaken Don Ketter of Ventura with 378 points, went ahead for good on the sixth of 15 laps when his inside move finished off early leader Bob McMahon of Port Hueneme.

Jan Hubert won the figure-eight Pony Stock main event for the second consecutive week. Hubert edged Mira Cook, upping her point total to 755. Cook, in second place in the Pony Stock points standings, lifted her total to 965.

Hubert lost her bid to sweep the Pony Stock oval and the Pony Stock figure-eight races for the second consecutive week when Tracy Jewett of Oxnard edged her to win the Pony Stock oval.

Gary Swenson of Ventura won the Mini Stock oval main event, lifting his points total to 1,015. Swenson remains in second place in the division behind Gary Hubert of Somis, who has 1,165 points.

Port Hueneme’s Joe Silva won the figure-eight Mini Stock main event for the second week in a row, upping his points total to 840, tops in the field.

Tim Gil of Camarillo won the second ICMA modified heat and also won the Trophy Dash. Bill Lauer of Santa Maria won the ICMA modified.

Paul Moore of Oak View added to his Street Stocks point lead with a victory in the second heat. Bill Bartels of Los Angeles took the Street Stocks first heat, easily outdistancing Tom Stephens.
