THOUSAND OAKS : City Staff to Draft No-Smoking Law

Share

Prompted by no-smoking ordinances in neighboring communities, the Thousand Oaks City Council on Wednesday directed staff to draft a law that would prohibit people from lighting up in public places or at work.

Although some members expressed concern that such a ban would drive smokers--and their dollars--out of Thousand Oaks restaurants and shops, the council unanimously voted to hold public hearings on a no-smoking ordinance.

Now that Moorpark has passed a stringent anti-smoking law and nearby Agoura Hills and Westlake Village are considering similar ordinances, Mayor Judy Lazar said she feels “much more confident in recommending this.”

The Planning Commission will take up the issue in the fall.
