CAMARILLO : City to Install Humps to Curb Fast Traffic

The city of Camarillo will install speed humps on Mobil Avenue to slow down motorists who use the street as a detour.

With two city council members admitting they are among the culprits who use Mobil Avenue to avoid traffic signals on adjacent roads, the council agreed on Wednesday night to spend $4,000 to install four speed humps.

The decision was made at the request of dozens of area residents, who complained that motorists who use the street were driving too fast.

A recent traffic study showed that 89% of traffic along the street travels at speeds exceeding the 25 m.p.h. limit, according to traffic engineer Tom Fox.

The humps will be spaced between Ponderosa Drive and Dunnigan Street.

Councilman Michael Morgan and Mayor Charlotte Craven told their fellow council members that they are among the motorists who regularly detour along Mobil Avenue to avoid traffic signals on Arneill Road and other busy thoroughfares.

“I also use other streets and I won’t tell you which they are,” Craven said.
