OXNARD : Board to Delay Boundary Changes

Share

The Oxnard school board will delay redrawing the boundaries for the city’s junior high schools until after the district moves forward with plans to repair the aging Richard Barrett Haydock Intermediate School.

“This may be our window of opportunity to make repairs to Haydock so it can be ready for another 40 or 50 years,” said Sandra Herrera, assistant superintendent.

Oxnard Elementary School District officials said they plan to temporarily close Haydock School on West Hill Street during repairs and divert students to two other junior high schools in Oxnard. The board then will consider shifting the school boundaries to make room for Robert J. Frank School, now under construction just north of La Colonia.

Board members said they will give parents “plenty of notice” before redrawing the boundaries that determine which school Oxnard children will attend. The board will send out flyers and receive public testimony before making a decision, Herrera said.
