Worshipers Evacuated After Blackout at Arena
About 3,000 worshipers were plunged into darkness when an electrical outage blacked out the lights at a religious gathering at the Pico Rivera Sports Arena on Saturday night, authorities said.
About 25 county firefighters arrived shortly after 10 p.m. to help evacuate the hall, where a faith-healing ceremony was going on.
Several in the audience were handicapped, said Los Angeles County Fire Department spokeswoman Charlotte Kramer. It took officials about two hours to calm and clear the auditorium, Kramer said. No injuries were reported.
