Countywide : Benefit Scheduled for Disabled Police

A family variety show featuring singing, dancing, magic, clowns and comedy will be presented today at 7 p.m. at the Disneyland Hotel to benefit the Disabled Police Officers Assn.

Proceeds from ticket sales for the first-ever Night of Family Entertainment show, a two-hour stage show in the hotel’s south exhibition hall, will go to the association. The association is a Huntington Beach-based nonprofit group that aids financially distressed law enforcement officers and their families.

Anthony D’Arrigo, a retired Orange County Marshal’s sergeant and founder of the association, said the benefit is another opportunity to continue the organization’s campaign to shore up the finances of officers in need.

Since its creation in 1987, the association has distributed more than $200,000 to members of the Southern California law enforcement community who have fallen on hard times, most often due to mounting medical bills.

The organization, which receives its donations from police departments, officers and the general public, has assisted dozens of officers in at least nine Orange County agencies with crises such as coping with cancer, an infant’s heart transplant and a bone marrow transplant. The association has also assisted in establishing trust funds for the children of officers who have died.
