John D. Carlyle has been selected to serve as interim superintendent of the Centralia School District, replacing Patricia Clark White, who has accepted a superintendent position for an elementary school district in San Diego.

Carlyle, who has served as assistant superintendent since January, 1986, took over the post this week.

District officials said Carlyle will remain in the position until a permanent appointment is made.

The district’s eight elementary schools are located in Buena Park, Anaheim and La Palma.

Board of Trustees President Karen Blake said Carlyle has “provided excellent leadership, overseeing the entire instructional division of the district.”

Carlyle has been a leader in the district’s strategic planning task force for the future, the Superintendent’s Cabinet, Instructional Leadership Council and Teacher Council, among other district activities.

Before he began his post as assistant superintendent, Carlyle served as principal at the district’s G.H. Dysinger School from 1982 to 1986.

Carlyle received a doctorate from United States International University in educational leadership and human behavior. He also holds a master’s degree and a bachelor’s degree.
