Closed Mondays

Is there a worldwide conspiracy against Mondays by the museum “industry”? After a nostalgic and delightful weekend at the rejuvenated Riverside Mission Inn, my wife and I decided to stay over for another day. Monday was hot and smoggy, so indoors was a must. The AAA tour book recommended the California Museum of Photography, Riverside Municipal Museum, Jurupa Mountains Cultural Center and March Field Museum. All closed. In nearby Redlands: Lincoln Memorial Shrine, San Bernardino County Museum, San Bernardino Assistencia. Closed. We were reminded of Europe, where the exigencies of group travel found us on Mondays in cities where most museums were closed. Perhaps these nonprofit cultural institutions fear that getting together to stagger closing days would violate antitrust laws.
