Huntington Library Closes Exhibition Halls to Prepare for Lincoln Show

The Huntington Library’s exhibition halls--which house the Gutenberg Bible, the Ellesmere manuscript of Chaucer’s “Canterbury Tales” and Shakespeare’s “First Folio”--are closed until Oct. 12 to prepare for a major show on Abraham Lincoln.

When the facility reopens, “The Last Best Hope of Earth: Abraham Lincoln and the Promise of America,” one of the largest and most comprehensive exhibitions ever devoted to the 16th President of the United States, will occupy the entire main exhibition hall.

The library’s most celebrated treasures will be on view in the west hall during the 10-month exhibition, but most of the items normally displayed in the library will be temporarily retired from public view.
