Glendale : Panel on Illegal Immigration
Congressman Carlos J. Moorhead (R-Glendale) will head a public congressional field hearing on the social and economic impact of illegal immigration.
The proceeding on Monday will begin at 9 a.m. in the Richard H. Chambers U.S. Court of Appeals Building, 125 S. Grand Ave., Pasadena.
The hearing will also be conducted by Congressmen Elton Gallegly (R-Simi Valley), Dana Rohrabacher (R-Huntington Beach) David Dreier (R-San Dimas), Jay Kim (R-Diamond Bar) and Howard P. (Buck) McKeon (R-Santa Clarita).
The hearing will be the first of several planned by the House Republican Research Committee Task Force on Illegal Immigration this year throughout the country.
Scheduled to testify are current and former Immigration and Naturalization Service officials; Border Patrol agents; representatives of Gov. Pete Wilson; Los Angeles County sheriff’s officials; and local and state elected officials, including County Supervisor Mike Antonovich and Assemblymen Pat Nolan (R-Glendale) and Richard L. Mountjoy (R-Arcadia).
Task force members and witnesses will address the scope and cost of illegal immigration, social benefits for illegal immigrants and crime.
The task force, which conducts regular meetings in Washington, plans to introduce immigration reform legislation this year.
