A $10 haircut can mean more than shorter hair.

On Aug. 22, the Kittie Olivier Beauty Salon is holding the fourth annual cut-a-thon to raise money for Project Together, a treatment program for abused and neglected children.

Paul (Pinkie) Richards, the owner of the shop who has been doing charitable cut-a-thons for more than 20 years, said that he and several dozen expert hairdressers from Orange and Los Angeles will be doing the $10 haircuts.

The 12-year-old Project Together is a volunteer-based program run by the Orange County Health Care Agency’s Children’s Mental Health Services. The money raised will be used to pay for volunteers to take the children on a variety of excursions, from Disneyland to a simple visit to a fast-food restaurant.

“There are a variety of special needs that these children and families have,” said Carole Neustadt, program supervisor.

The beauty salon is at 2640 East Coast Highway. For more information, call Project Together office at 938-4403.
