Ventura : Woman Apparently Was Hit by Train
A 36-year-old woman was in critical condition Thursday after she was apparently hit by an Amtrak train on a trestle above the Ventura River, police said.
Firefighters found Donna Jean Kennedy lying unconscious to the side of the tracks about 10 p.m. Wednesday. She was bleeding from the back of the head, said Rick Achee, assistant chief with the Ventura City Fire Department.
However, no other wounds were visible and it did not appear she had been hit squarely by the train, he said.
She was taken to Ventura County Medical Center where she was listed in critical condition in the intensive care unit Thursday, a nursing supervisor said.
Police said Kennedy was sitting on the trestle and did not move when the Amtrak engineer sounded a whistle.
