PANORAMA CITY : MTA Shuttle Stops Added for Students
The Metropolitan Transit Authority will add several stops to one of its commuter bus routes in September in order to give Panorama City children transportation to school, a spokesman for the MTA said.
For 25 cents each way, children living near Blythe Street will be able to ride a portion of the Metrolink’s DASH shuttle route, which travels on Van Nuys Boulevard to the Van Nuys Metrolink station every 20 to 30 minutes.
The addition of the new stops marks the successful completion of a months-long community effort to make it safer for area schoolchildren to get to school. Last month, Metrolink fenced off access to a dangerous railroad crossing that Panorama City children used as a shortcut on their way to school.
The new route will probably include a loop around Roscoe Boulevard, Armen Hovanessian, a supervising transportation planner for Metrolink, said. About 50 to 60 students of Valerio Street Elementary School and Fulton Junior High School are expected to ride the bus each school day.
