Costa Mesa’s Venegas Wins Scratch Main
Charlie Venegas of Costa Mesa won his first scratch main event of the year Friday at the weekly speedway motorcycle racing program at the Orange County Fairgrounds.
Venegas was a wire-to-wire winner, easily beating second-place Brad Oxley of San Juan Capistrano. Steve Lucero of Riverside finished third and Mike Faria of Apple Valley fourth.
Bobby Schwartz of Costa Mesa won the eight-lap handicap main event and Shawn McConnell of Brea was second. Oxley was third, Ed Castro of Ojai fourth, and Don Odom of Redondo Beach fifth.
