If the world were suddenly ending, Morrissey would probably be singing some peppy pop ditty about it. Kids love the irreverence of his happy-go-lucky nihilism and get zings out of the unsettling contrasts between his somber perceptions and the energized rock backing.
As you’d expect, the videos in this often riveting 28-minute collection--including “Tomorrow” and “My Love Life”--don’t revolve around any fancy concepts. But who needs them? When Morrissey is just sitting on the beach or cruising in a Rolls-Royce, there are ominous vibes. In these moody clips, simplicity and understatement generate plenty of tension.
