Blades Beat Bullfrogs in Shootout

What started with the look of a blowout victory for the Bullfrogs instead ended with the team’s first loss of the season.

The Bullfrogs (11-1) scored three goals on their first four shots but were beaten in overtime, 7-6, by the Blades on Sunday at the Forum.

The score was tied, 6-6, at the end of regulation and each team scored twice during the five-player regulation shootout.

From there the shootout continued one player at a time until Mike Ross won it for the Blades.

Ross, the 10th Blade to shoot in overtime, beat Bullfrog goalie Bill Horn on the glove side.

The Bullfrogs were ahead, 2-0, after three tries in the shootout but the Blades came back to tie.

The Bullfrogs had the best chance to win in the final two minutes of regulation with Brad McCaughey on a breakaway, but his shot hit the left post.

The score was tied at halftime, 4-4, and neither team scored in the third quarter. The Bullfrogs made it 6-4 with two goals early in the fourth quarter.

But the Blades came back. Ralph Bogoyevac scored with 5:30 remaining to cut the lead to 6-5. The Blades tied the score, 6-6, when Mike Callahan scored on a breakaway with 3:38 left.

It was the first time in four tries the Blades have beaten the Bullfrogs this season.
