Biopool Profit, Revenue Fall in Second Quarter

Biopool International Inc., maker of test kits for diagnosing blood disorders, reported that its second-quarter profit plunged 70% on a 23% drop in sales.

The company blamed the declines on currency fluctuations and the distressed European economy, which hurt the operating results of its Swedish subsidiary, Biopool AB.

Biopool’s net income for the three months ended June 30 fell to $50,758 from $171,713 a year earlier. Sales skidded to $1.14 million from $1.47 million in 1992’s second quarter.

For the six months, Biopool’s net income dropped 56% to $129,107 compared with $293,209 in last year’s first half. Sales for the latest six months fell 18% to $2.16 million from $2.65 million a year earlier.
