CAMARILLO : Panel to Study Easing Restrictions on Signs

Share

At the request of some local companies, the Camarillo Planning Commission will consider tonight whether to loosen its restrictions on signs in industrial areas.

The commission will decide whether to allow all tenants of industrial parks to post their business’s name on signs facing the street.

Currently, only businesses that are located in the back of the complex and therefore not visible to passersby are allowed to have signs at the front of their industrial park, Planning Director Matthew A. Boden said.

With the proposed amendment, businesses located at the front of industrial complexes, and which are presumably visible from the street, could add their names to the industrial park’s signs.

But the change would apply only to industrial companies, not to office complexes and other businesses located in the city’s commercial zones, Boden said.

In commercial areas, Camarillo requires that large office complexes show the names of only their four biggest tenants on signs fronting the street.

Boden said the restriction avoids the cluttered appearance of signs that list too many business names.
