Southeast Area : Education Board Members Reappointed Without Vote

Share

Five officials will be appointed to another term in office after challengers failed to surface in three races for school and community college districts in the Southeast area.

Instead of facing an election Nov. 2, incumbents Paul C. Delgado, Angelica G. Johnson and C. Gloria Duran will be appointed to four-year terms on the Los Nietos School District board, county elections officials said.

It is the second time in two years that school board elections in Los Nietos failed to attract challengers, officials said. Two board members were unopposed in the 1991 election.

In Downey, incumbent Betty N. Ferraro will serve another term on the Downey Unified School District board after drawing no opposition. Ferraro has been on the board since 1990, when she was appointed to replace resigning board member Walter Temple. Two other incumbents face challengers in November.

In Whittier, no opponents filed for the seat held by Rio Hondo Community College District board member Barbara S. Stone.

Stone was elected to her first term on the five-member board in 1989. Voters will decide who will fill two other seats on the Rio Hondo board.
