‘Casino Night’ Nets $18,000 Jackpot for Cancer Institute

John Wayne Cancer Institute received $18,000 raised at the July 16 “Casino Night” benefit hosted by Chapter II, a new institute support group. The event was held at the Olympic Collection in West Los Angeles. Proceeds will provide psychosocial programs for cancer patients.

Best Buddies, a nonprofit organization founded by Anthony Shriver, raised $55,000 at its June 29 benefit at the home of Marc and Jane Nathanson. Proceeds will benefit the program, which fosters friendships between college students and mentally disabled people.

Orthopaedic Hospital was honored July 10 by United Way for providing $887,000 in charity care for needy children in 1992 through the hospital’s L.A. County Pediatric Orthopaedic Transfer Program.

Fulfillment Fund Friends netted $6,000 at a luncheon and fashion show July 7 at the Four Seasons in Beverly Hills. The funds will benefit disadvantaged students.

South Bay Free Clinic’s penny drive--collection of pennies over this year--raised $2,000, which will be used to immunize 200 children against diphtheria, tetanus and polio.

San Fernando Valley Child Guidance Clinic netted $55,000 at its June 10 Western-style benefit dinner-dance at the MountainGate Country Club in Bel-Air. Proceeds will support the clinic’s programs for troubled children and their families. Donna Schwarzbach and Janet Canter were co-chairs.

United Cerebral Palsy Assn. received $10,000 raised by employees of 41 L.A. area companies and other companies around the nation. On June 18, participating employees donated $5 to the “Casual Day” fund-raiser.
