GOINGS ON : A Season of Diverse Tunes at UCSB : Arts and Lecture Department will feature Tibetan chanting, chamber music and even Shakespeare.

Some Shakespeare, some Tibetan chanting, some mime, some chamber music, some Spaulding Gray. They are all on the fall schedule of UC Santa Barbara’s Arts and Lectures Department.

The 1993-94 Arts and Lectures season will kick off Oct. 10 with a performance by the Kronos Quartet. The Naa Kahidi Theater group from Alaska will follow Oct. 20, with an evening of chamber music--featuring the Santa Barbara Chamber Orchestra, the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival, and the UCSB Symphony--wrapping up the month on Oct. 24.

Single tickets for any of the season’s events will go on sale Sept. 23. General admission will range from $12 to $20. Discount tickets are already available when purchasing tickets to five or more events through the “Choose-Your-Own” series plan. Call 893-3535.

The theater group “A Company of Players,” will perform Shakespeare’s “The Tempest,” beginning Saturday and running weekends through Sept. 26 at Las Positas Friendship Park.

Shows will begin at 5 p.m., with the park grounds opening at 4 p.m. Admission is $10 adults, $8 seniors, and free for children 12 and younger. Tickets are available at the event. For more information, call 568-9455.

Santa Barbara’s Oak Park will be abuzz Saturday and Sunday with the Festa Italia, the sixth cultural festival on the park’s 1993 summer calendar.

Not much explanation is needed here. There will be the usual Italian music (featuring the Roberto Bonanni Band playing 12:30 to 7 p.m. both days), Italian merchandise, and Italian food (pastries, ices, lasagna, calamari, polenta, meatball sandwiches). Local entertainer Andy LoRusso will emcee the festival and will perform songs from his “Sing and Cook Italian” cookbook. Guests will probably run into a strolling minstrel or mime as well.

The park is located at Alamar Avenue and Junipero Street. The festival will run from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. both days. Admission is free. For more information, call 962-8956.

It continues Sunday with a showing of Stanley Kubrick’s 1971 R-rated classic “A Clockwork Orange,” adapted from the novel by Anthony Burgess. Show time is 11 a.m. The theater is located at 2044 Alameda Padre Serra.

Coming attraction: The Academy-winning 1950 film “All About Eve,” starring Bette Davis,” will be shown Sept. 5.

The Gallery Los Olivos, a co-op gallery operated by 38 area artists, will celebrate its first anniversary by featuring the works of Mary Taylor Jones, Ilona Rymer and Barbara Nance. The show opens Monday and will run through Oct. 3.

Jones’ pastel and acrylic work will focus on the “Elements of the Human Condition.” Rymer’s watercolor and acrylic exhibit, titled “Anything and Everything,” will concentrate on scenes from Avila Beach to Solvang. Nance will show her latest stone carvings.

The gallery is located at 2920 Grand Ave. in Los Olivos. It is open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day. Call 688-7517.

A century of Japanese graphic art is on display at the Santa Barbara Museum of Art through Oct. 31, in a show titled “Tradition/Innovation: 20th Century Japanese Prints.”

The artwork illustrates the traditional Japanese woodblock prints, updated with Western artistic influences. The exhibit features 60 works by 32 artists. The museum is located at 1130 State St. It is open Tuesday to Saturday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Thursday 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sunday noon to 5 p.m. For more information, call 963-4364.
