ROUNDUP : Flawlessly Awarded Victory in Beverly D
Favored Flawlessly was declared the winner of Saturday’s $500,000 Beverly D at Arlington International Racecourse when first-place Let’s Elope failed to withstand a foul claim.
Jockey Chris McCarron’s interference claim against Pat Valenzuela and Let’s Elope was upheld by the stewards.
Let’s Elope put on a strong stretch drive to prevail in a tight four-horse finish. Flawlessly was second with Via Borghese third and Hero’s Love fourth in the seven-horse field.
But Flawlessly, trained by Charlie Whittingham, was placed first and Via Borghese second, with Let’s Elope dropped to third by the stewards for bumping.
The margins at the finish were a nose, a neck and a nose. Let’s Elope went 1 3/16 miles on the turf in 1:55 3/5.
Flawlessly, winning her fourth consecutive race and earning $300,000, paid $3, $2.60 and $2.10. Via Borghese returned $4 and $2.40 and Let’s Elope paid $2.40.
