Jockey Julie Krone underwent surgery Monday for a broken right ankle after a spill on the final day of racing this season at Saratoga Race Course in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.

She was in “stable, fair condition” at Saratoga Hospital. Krone, 30, is the second leading rider at Saratoga. It was not clear when she would ride again.

In the third race, Krone was riding the filly Seattle Way around the turn into the stretch when they were bumped by another horse. Seattle Way clipped her heels, buckled and tossed Krone. The horse then collided with Holly North, sending jockey Jean-Luc Samyn to the ground. Samyn walked away unharmed.
