Share

As expected, the Raiders re-signed both of their kickers, Jeff Jaeger and Jeff Gossett, Tuesday as well as defensive lineman Willie Broughton, running back Napoleon McCallum, offensive lineman Todd Peat and defensive back Dan Land.

The Raiders got a two-week exemption for Raghib (Rocket) Ismail, who signed his contract Tuesday. But if they decide to activate him for Sunday’s game, someone will have to go.

The Raiders also announced that tight end John Duff, defensive linemen Jon Baker and Akili Calhoun, running back Randy Jordan, and offensive lineman Tom Roth would make up the team’s practice squad.

With Nick Bell sidelined because of a hamstring injury, Coach Art Shell announced Tuesday that Greg Robinson, the team’s eighth-round draft choice out of Northeast Louisiana, had beaten out Gaston Green and Ty Montgomery for the starting job at tailback in Sunday’s opener against the Minnesota Vikings.

“He’s showed what he could do throughout the preseason,” Shell said. “He’s done well carrying the ball, he has the capabilities to block, he’s a good receiver and he doesn’t make mental errors.”

Robinson had the Raiders’ best play of the exhibition season, a 74-yard touchdown run against the Indianapolis Colts.

Quarterback Todd Marinovich has decided not to make any comment on his release by the Raiders, according to his agent, Tom Condon.

Condon said he had not been contacted by any other club about Marinovich as of Tuesday.
