LANCASTER : Alleged Gang Members Barred From Fairgrounds
Sheriff’s deputies have denied admission to the Antelope Valley Fair to as many as 20 teen-agers who they say are “obvious street gang members” under a policy that has drawn complaints from the American Civil Liberties Union.
Sheriff’s Sgt. David Webster said that, in addition to the juveniles who have been kept out of the fairgrounds, as many as 50 other gang members have been required to leave the fair for fighting or harassing people.
But ACLU staff attorney Mark Silverstein said the policy violates the fair-goers’ civil rights.
