PORT HUENEME : Bicycle Rental Operation Approved

The Port Hueneme City Council has approved a short-term lease for a bicycle rental operation at an unused parking lot at the Dorill B. Wright Cultural Center.

Under terms of the three-month trial lease, Port Hueneme R.V. and Marine Storage will pay 10% of its gross revenues to the city for the lot at the center, which has been closed since May because of a shortage of funds.

Several residents of Surfside IV, a condominium project next to the lot, criticized the lease at the council’s meeting Wednesday, saying the business would create noise and trash in the residential area.

But Assistant City Planner Greg C. Brown said a bicycle rental stand would serve beach visitors and reduce the chance of vandalism and graffiti at the closed cultural center.

The council unanimously approved the lease without comment.
