A Long Beach man was arrested early Thursday when his car crashed into the living room of a house while he was fleeing California Highway Patrol officers.

Brian Patrick Carmichael, 29, was held on suspicion of evading arrest and assault on a police officer, CHP Officer Joan Rivas said.

No one was injured in the 2:20 a.m. accident in the 900 block of South Echo Place, Rivas said.

The chase began when officers saw Carmichael drive through a red light at Ball and Ox roads, near the Santa Ana Freeway, Rivas said.

Carmichael continued west on Ball Road, swerving into opposing traffic and nearly hitting another car, Rivas said.

South Echo Place ends in a cul-de-sac where Carmichael’s car skidded to halt and he hopped out, Rivas said. But then Carmichael got back into the car and drove toward the CHP vehicle, Rivas said.

His car glanced off the CHP cruiser, careened across a lawn and smashed into the front of a house, Rivas said.

The owner of the house, who was not identified, was asleep in a back bedroom, Rivas said.
