A Thousand Oaks teen-ager died Friday, a day after he was thrown from his bicycle while giving a ride to a friend on the handlebars, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department said.

Rolondo Reyes, 14, was riding the bike on the sidewalk next to Thousand Oaks Boulevard on Thursday morning with Saul Ruiz, 16, on the handlebars, police said.

The passenger’s left foot got lodged in the spokes of the front tire, throwing both boys off the bike, police said. Reyes suffered a severe head injury and was taken to Los Robles Hospital. Ruiz received minor cuts and scrapes, police said.
