Wary of repeating the fan rampage that occurred when it did an in-store appearance at the Beverly Hills Wherehouse record store in 1990, Depeche Mode is planning a less personal meet-and-greet tied to its upcoming U.S. tour. The band will hold a computer network fan forum sometime during the week of Sept. 20. Fans hooked up to the America On-Line service will be able to type in questions and have them answered by band members. . . .

Among the songs on the upcoming Lemonheads album, “Come On Feel the Lemonheads,” are “Big Gay Heart,” a country-ish, anti-gay-bashing song featuring ex-Flying Burrito Brother Sneeky Pete Kleinow on pedal steel, and “Rick James’ Style,” a song about struggles with sobriety featuring guest cameos by James and Juliana Hatfield. Head Lemon Evan Dando is holed up in an L.A. studio finishing the album, which is due in October. . . .

She’s co-written nine of the 12 songs recorded so far, with two featuring backing vocals by the group Jellyfish. The album’s due next March. . . . The latest rocker planning a children’s album is the Who’s Roger Daltrey, whose “The Man in the Moon Takes a Night Off” will be released by BMG/Kids Zoom. Daltrey has also signed a deal with independent Continuum Records, which is planning both studio and live releases from the rock stallion next year.
