In separate incidents Saturday night, a child and a man were killed as they walked across city streets in Orange County, police reported.

A 4-year-old Anaheim boy was fatally injured in Laguna Beach at 7:10 p.m. while walking with his parents across South Coast Highway near 1st Street, police reported. The 75-year-old woman driving the car that struck him was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving and vehicular manslaughter.

The child was identified by the Orange County coroner’s office as Forrest Wonekura. Laguna Beach police said he was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Motoharu Wonekura.

The Wonekuras “were crossing Coast Highway from the ocean side to the inland side,” Sgt. Bob Rahaeuser said. “The boy was struck by a motorist who was northbound on Coast Highway.”

Police arrested Lucille Davis of Laguna Niguel after giving her a sobriety blood test, Rahaeuser said. She was released on her own recognizance.

The second pedestrian fatality occurred in Buena Park about 9 p.m. in the 7600 block of Beach Boulevard. The victim was identified by the coroner’s office as Lionel Craig, 47, of Compton.

Craig was attempting to cross Beach Boulevard in an area that has neither stoplights nor crosswalks, according to Buena Park Police Sgt. Charlie Russell. Craig was struck in the northbound lane of Beach Boulevard by a pickup truck with Utah plates. Police interviewed the driver, who was unable to stop in time to avoid the accident.

Russell said no charges were placed against the Utah driver, who was not identified.

Craig was taken to a hospital in Anaheim and was pronounced dead at 10:25 p.m.
