SANTA PAULA : City to Help Families Buy Mobile Homes

Share

The Santa Paula City Council has agreed to spend $150,000 of the city’s low-income housing fund to help poor families buy mobile homes.

Under the plan, an estimated 44 families who now rent mobile homes will receive 3% interest loans to purchase their plots and trailers in the Santa Paula West Mobilehome Park.

The agreement marks the first time the city has helped fund conversion of housing from rental to owner-occupied, said Ken Cott, the city’s economic development director.

“Statewide you’re starting to see more of this,” Cott said. “It allows the tenants to have control over their destiny.”

The housing purchases will be financed by Santa Paula’s $1.1-million Redevelopment Agency fund, Cott said.
