LOS ANGELES : Dismissal of Charges in Drug-Money Case Reversed

A three-judge panel of the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals reversed a federal judge’s dismissal of charges in drug money-skimming cases against five Los Angeles County sheriff’s narcotics officers and a Los Angeles Police Department detective.

The panel of appeals judges, Harlington Wood Jr., Stephen Reinhardt and Pamela Ann Rymer, remanded the case to U.S. District Judge Robert M. Takasugi. The panel concluded that Takasugi had erred last year in ruling not to proceed with the cases against the six when fewer than a majority of jurors failed to vote to convict.

Among those who may now face another trial are deputies Roger R. Garcia, Edward D. Jamison, Robert S. Tolmaire, John L. Edner and J. C. Miller, and Los Angeles police Detective Stephen W. Polak.
