For the second consecutive game, the first-place Vancouver 86ers beat the fourth-place Salsa in a shootout to earn a 3-2 victory in the American Professional Soccer League.
Saturday, the 86ers (15-9) did it at Titan Stadium. Wednesday, they did it in Vancouver after a 2-2 tie in regulation and a 15-minute overtime period. The Salsa’s Paul Wright scored in the last five minutes of regulation put pull the Salsa (12-10) into a tie. Paulinho, the league’s leading scorer with 36 points (15 goals, six assists), tied the score, 1-1, in the first half.
Wright, whose 33 points are second only to Paulinho, received a yellow card in the 12th minute, and as a result he will miss the Salsa’s game Saturday at Tampa Bay.
