The upcoming solo album from Phil Collins is really solo. The Genesis frontman not only wrote and produced all the songs for the as-yet-untitled collection but also played all the instruments. The album is due Nov. 2, with a tour planned for next year. . . .

Tori Amos has started work on the follow-up to her hit solo debut album. The new release should be out in early ’94. . . . The Smithereens, one of the acts cast off during Capitol Records’ recent shake-up, has found a new home at RCA. The band is expected to start on a new album soon with producer Mike Klink, who co-produced Guns ‘N Roses’ “Use Your Illusion” albums. . . .

Quentin Crisp, of “The Naked Civil Servant” fame, recorded opening and closing remarks for an upcoming anthology of Boy George and Culture Club tracks. The album, running from 1982’s “Do You Really Want to Hurt Me” to last year’s “The Crying Game,” will be out Nov. 2. . . .

Among the bands moving from the RCA family to Atlantic with the new Atlantic deal with the small Beggar’s Banquet company is Charlatans UK, which has a new album due in early ’94. . . . Dutch band Bettie Serveert, the subject of a recent bidding war, will be touring the U.S. in October with the band Buffalo Tom before starting work on its major label debut for Atlantic/Matador. . . .

Levon Helm’s saga of the Band, “This Wheel’s on Fire,” is being published by Morrow in October. The book was co-written by Stephen Davis, who wrote the Led Zeppelin tome “Hammer of the Gods.” . . .

Boxed-set anthologies are on the way in October from Emerson, Lake & Palmer and Free, with a Humble Pie box due early next year. The four-CD ELP set will be a little unusual in that the prog-rockers have made new studio recordings of some of their old material, including songs they were each associated with before joining forces in 1971. The oddest of the bunch may be their remake of “Fire,” the 1969 hit by the Crazy World of Arthur Brown, which included 19-year-old drummer Carl Palmer.
