MID-WILSHIRE : Library Expands Reading Program

The Wilshire Branch Library of the Los Angeles Public Library is expanding its reading program to six days a week and will be honoring participants in its summer Reading Club this week.

The “Grandparents and Books” reading enrichment program, in which senior citizens read to children, will now take place Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 2:30 to 4 p.m.; Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m., and Saturdays from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.

On Monday at 4 p.m., Reading Club participants will receive certificates of achievement and will be treated to a performance of Mexican dances by the group Ballet Folklorico Raices. The free performance is open to the public.

People of all ages may take advantage of the library’s tutoring program in arithmetic, algebra and geometry. This is the final week for the program’s current schedule, Mondays and Wednesdays from 2:30 to 6:30 p.m. Beginning Monday, tutoring will be offered on Mondays from 4:30 to 8 p.m.
