Man Arrested After Shots Are Fired at Deputies
A 30-year-old Saugus man who fired several gunshots at sheriff’s deputies Saturday surrendered after briefly barricading himself inside his family’s home, authorities said.
No one was hurt during the 90-minute disturbance.
Francis LaFrance surrendered and was arrested after the shooting, which prompted deputies to evacuate several houses in the neighborhood, Los Angeles County sheriff’s spokeswoman Angie McLaughlin said. Sheriff’s deputies did not return fire, she said.
The incident began about 6:25 p.m. in the 22300 block of Paraguay Drive when LaFrance opened fire on the deputies, who were responding to a call to break up a fist fight between LaFrance and his father, McLaughlin said.
After his parents fled, LaFrance barricaded himself in the house, McLaughlin said.
Sheriff’s deputies sent a SWAT team and crisis-negotiating unit to the scene, but LaFrance surrendered before they arrived, McLaughlin said.
Deputies recovered two handguns near the house, McLaughlin said.
