‘Booker of Bookers’ Award Goes to Rushdie

LONDON — Salman Rushdie, the British author living under an Iranian death threat after being accused of blasphemy against Islam, Monday won the “Booker of Bookers” award marking the 25th anniversary of Britain’s most prestigious literary prize.
Rushdie emerged from a life spent mostly in hiding to attend an informal ceremony at a central London bookshop that celebrated his 1981 novel, “Midnight’s Children,” as the best of the books that have won the annual Booker Prize since 1968.
